A tsunami watch has been canceled for Hawai'i following a magnitude 7.5 earthquake near the Kuril Islands.

The National Weather Service issued the watch at about 5 p.m. and canceled around 5:50 p.m.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, if waves are generated, the estimated time of arrival would be about 10:40 p.m. tonight. 

Preliminary reports classified the quake at 7.8.
