The University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine softball team beat New Mexico 2-1 on Wednesday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
The Wahine squared off against New Mexico in the first of eight home games. The eight games will be spread across the next five days for the Hawai‘i Invitational tournament.
Brittany Hitchcock earned her third win as she struck out a season-high nine batters while walking just one. She faced just 25 batters and allowed one run in seven innings.
Hawai‘i scored the first run of the game during the first inning after sophomore centerfielder Brittnee Rossi was able to take it home after a double-play by third baseman Nicole Lopez. The Wahine scored again in the fourth inning thanks to catcher Callee Heen’s monster homerun to right field.
The Rainbow Wahine return to the RWSS tomorrow at 6 p.m. to take on Canisus University.
