Brittany Hitchcock recorded her fourth complete shut-out game of the season as the University of Hawai'i softball team (18-7) beat the SIUE Cougars 5-0 Thursday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Hitchcock gave up just three hits, walked three and struck out three as she faced 23 batters in seven innings of work.

Junior catcher Callee Heen launched a solo home run over the left center field fence in the bottom of the fourth to give UH a 1-0 lead.

Hawai'i put up three runs that would extend its lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning. Senior third baseman Nicole Lopez drove in sophomore right fielder Bree Soma with an RBI-double to the right field. Later on, sophomore center fielder Brittnee Rossi scored from third on a passed ball, and Lopez crossed the plate on an RBI-groundout to second by Heen.

In the sixth, junior shortstop Sissy Pantastico fired a home run over the center field fence. It was the fifth home run of her career.

The Cougars tried to rally back with runners at first and second base in the top of the seventh with no outs. However, Hitchcock and the UH defense ended the game with a double-play. Soma snared a sinking line drive towards the left field line, then doubled off the runner at second to junior second baseman Cheeks Ramos.

UH returns to the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium tomorrow at 6 p.m. to take on No. 4 Alabama.
