The University of Hawaiʻi softball team (13-5) fell to the California Golden Bears (14-7) in a 14-0 shut out Thursday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
The Golden Bears pulled off their fifth five-inning win in a row on the second day of the Outrigger Resorts Hawaiʻi Spring Fling Tournament. Both teams were held scoreless after the first inning, but the second inning ended up being an offensive eruption for the away team, scoring eight runs.
UH only had three hits the entire game against senior Cal pitcher Kamalani Dung, a 2015 graduate of Kamehameha. Dung sealed her sixth win of the season in her homecoming game.
Despite tonight’s loss, the Rainbow Wahine still have a solid record at home as they are six games above a .500 record at 10-4.
Hawaiʻi hopes to bounce back from this loss as they return to the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium to take on Niagara tomorrow at 6 p.m.
