The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team fell to Kansas state in its season opener 25-21, 29-27, 25-20 tonight at Stan Sheriff Center.
This is the second time in three years that Kansas State (1-0) defeated UH (0-1). Before 2016, the Wildcats were 0-5. It is also the third consecutive year that UH dropped its season opener.
Senior outside hitter McKenna Granato lead UH with 14 kills, while senior Casey Castillo added 11. Granato also had a double-double with 11 digs.
Senior libero Tita Akiu had 15 digs. Senior setter Faith Ma'afala had 30 assists and 12 digs, and junior Norene Iosia had 10 assists and 10 digs.
A rematch is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday at Stan Sheriff Center that is open to the public. Tonight's match was closed due to weather concerns.
