Junior opposite Rado Parapunov and senior outside hitter Stijn van Tilburg combined for 31 kills to help Hawai'i sweep USC 25-12, 25-23 and 25-16 on Saturday night for the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Warrior Classic title at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The 'Bows improve to 3-0 on the season.
Parapunov and van Tilburg were also named to the all-tournament team, with senior setter Joe Worsley named as the most valuable player. Worsley made 34 assists that night, while Parapunov and van Tilburg tallied 16 and 15 kills respectively.
Parapunov and van Tilburg put down five kills apiece to help set the tone in the first set. The 'Bows eventually scored 10 of the set's final 12 points to notch an early 1-0 lead.
Set two featured six ties and two lead changes, with both teams trading blows. Junior outside hitter Colton Cowell put down a kill to make it 24-22, with a USC service error giving the set to the 'Bows 25-23.
The 'Bows hit .500 in the third set, with Parapunov making five kills. UH had a four-point lead at 16-12 before scoring seven more unanswered points. Worsley made nine assists to help the 'Bows secure the sweep.
Sophomore libero Gage Worsley made 12 digs that night, with his brother adding seven. The 'Bows hit .456 and racked up five aces.
Next, the 'Bows will have a week off before hosting their alumni match on Jan. 25 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
