The second-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team opened the 25th Outrigger Resorts Invitational with a straight-set win over King University Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 25-8, 25-15, 25-7.
The Rainbow Warriors (13-0) continue to show that they are one of the best teams in the nation as they were able to extend their set win streak to 39 on the season. UH hasn’t dropped a single set of any match this season.
UH hit .540 for the match and tallied a season-high 13 aces.
Leading the ways for the Warriors were senior middle blocker Dalton Solbrig, with a match-high eight kills, and junior outside hitter Colton Cowell, who contributed three aces along with five kills and three blocks.
UH scored 12 of the first 13 points of the first set, as the Warriors sided-out at 89 percent in a set that lasted only 15 minutes.
The second set was more of the same as Hawai'i took a comfortable 15-5 lead at the media timeout. Solbrig led the way with seven kills as the Warriors took a 2-0 lead. For the third consecutive set, the Warriors led 15-5 at the media timeout. UH served eight aces and did not commit a hitting error in 15 attempts.
UH will return to the Stan Sheriff Center to take on Ball State tomorrow at 7 p.m.
