UH announced today that due to financial cuts, womenʻs beach volleyball head coach Jeff Hall has been laid off. Womenʻs indoor and beach volleyball programs will now be combined.

"Making decisions that affect so many people are not easy...We have been analyzing our financial situation and looking for ways to reduce expenses and this option, as hard as it is, is one that we need to exercise at this time," Athletics Director David Matlin said.

Hall will be replaced by Angelica Ljungqvist, the current indoor volleyball associate coach, with womenʻs indoor head coach Robyn Ah Mow overseeing both programs.

Hall has been with the SandBows for five years leading the Rainbow Wahine to the national championship tournament each season and was named the Big West Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2018.

He was also an assistant volleyball coach under the legendary Dave Shoji for three years.

"We're very proud of the job he has done and the student-athletes he has developed in the program. He has been an important member of our athletics department 'ohana and we wish him well," Matlin said.

Ljungqvist will take over coaching duties immediately. Assistant beach volleyball coach Evan Silberstein will remain with the the program under Ljungqvistʻs direction.
