University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine Softball freshman Mikaela Gandia-Mak was named Big West Freshman of the Week.
She led the Rainbow Wahine with a .500 batting average during last week's season opener. The San Clemente native is the first-ever recipient of the BWC Freshman of the Week award.
Gandia-Mak started all five games in the right field as she begins her collegiate career. During her first five games, she went 6-for-12 at the plate while simultaneously recording at least one hit in four of the five games. Gandia-Mak also scored three runs and drove in three more while swiping her first career stolen base.
Her best game of the young season came during the 8-0 shutout of Saint Mary's, where she finished 3-for-3 while plating two runs and driving in a pair of runs. She also went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the tourney finale to help the 'Bows win 7-6 over Fresno State.
UH will return to the field to take on New Mexico at 6 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
