The No. 4 Warriors (20-3, 10-3 MPSF) had their 15 game win streak halted by No. 3 BYU (18-2, 12-1 MPSF) on the road in Provo, Utah.
The first set was close, the Warriors and Cougars trading points back and forth forcing the set into extra points, but the Cougars ended up taking the set 28-26. Sophomore opposite hitter Stijn van Tilburg had six kills and one error on 11 swings hitting at .455 and a service ace.
The Warriors had a harder time in the second set, trailing the entire set and losing 25-18. Hawai‘i as a team was hitting at .173 compared to BYU at .423.
The Warrior win streak was officially brought to an end with a BYU third set score of 25-20. Tilburg ended the night with 16 kills. Senior outside hitter Kupono Fey contributed 10 kills, two digs and had a hand in a block.
The Warriors hit at .188 compared to the Cougars .440. Hawai‘i was out blocked by BYU four blocks to 12.
The Warriors will rematch BYU on March 18 at 3 p.m. HST.
