A construction worker, 30, was killed while unloading metal parts at The Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex Thursday night.

The accident occurred while the man, who is still unidentified, was unloading heavy storage or shipping containers for the field's new hospitality suites, said UH Spokesperson Dan Meisenzahl.

The man was from Great Britain and was a subcontractor brought in to install the suites by the German modular architecture company, Röder, Meisenzahl said.

The accident is under investigation, but HPD said there were no suspicious motives.

Meisenzahl said the project has been closed for the weekend and the university will assist in the investigation.

The University of Hawai‘i will release a statement regarding the incident later today.
