The University of Hawaiʻi soccer team had a second half comeback against UC Riverside that resulted in a 2-1 for the Rainbow Wāhine Thursday night at the Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Bailey Faulkner scored the tying goal for the Rainbow Wāhine in the 72nd minute and Amber Gilbert’s goal in the 80th minute put Hawaiʻi (6-4-3, 3-2-3 Big West) ahead.

During the first period, UH started off with two shots on goal within the first seven minutes of play, but were met with harsh resistance from the opposing team, leading to a goal made by Riverside player Kameron Henry in the 15th minute.

Following the first goal, the game intensified over the next 30 minutes, with many more shots — Riverside with nine and UH with eight.

Following the first period, UH turned the tables, starting off with a shot on goal by midfielder Eliza Ammendolia within the fifth minute, followed by nine more shots and four corner kicks.

Faulkner’s goal in the 72nd minute was assisted by Taylor Caporus, making the score 1-1. Gilbert’s goal in the 80th minute put UH ahead 2-1. After the second goal, there were five attempted shots by UCR and until the end of the period.

The game ended with four corner kicks for both teams, 18 shots on goal for UC Riverside, 20 for UH, and a win for the ‘Bows that brings them back on track for a potential spot in the Big West Conference Women’s Soccer Championship tournament. The ‘Bows will continue on, playing Cal State Fullerton at 4 p.m. HST on Sunday at the Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Stadium. The match will be televised on Spectrum Sports.
